Well, all we can do is try scaling it from various shots. The entrance
to the landing bays, for example. given the shots of vipers landing,
and and a few other such shots, the bay entry *cant* be more than 10
meters tall. Is the Galactica 400 times longer than that bay is tall?

I'd have to say that *does* seem to be in range. If you've ever seen a
model of the Galactica, it's *huge*, (around a meter long), and the
landing bays are only a few mm tall. (if that)

What TL are "force fields" that can acts as airlocks and helmet
Ask around. New copies are kinda expensive. But there are lots of
*used* copies floating around Prices of $10-$40 are common. Mostly
towards the low end.

Keep an eye on E-bay.

What you *want* is Warp 4. Though you could probably get by with Warp
3. Warp 3 comes in several versions:

Warp 3 Red (the box has a red spine) does not include the OS2 Windows
support. Instead you need to have a copy of Win 3.1x and it will patch
it to work with OS/2. This is the least desireable for most folks,
though it's *preferred* for folks wanting to step from DOS with
DesqView to something better.

Warp 3 Blue (the box has a blue spine) *does* include "Win-OS/2" which
runs Win 3.1 and early Win32 apps *better* than real Windows.

Both versions also come in a "Connect" version which includes
Networking capability. Both LAN and Internet.

So that gives 4 versions:

Warp 3 Red
Warp 3 Red connect
Warp 3 Blue
Warp 3 Blue connect

Warp 4 has both Win-OS/2 and networking.

Warp 3 wil run on a 386. For Warp 4, you want at least a 486. Though
I'm told that if you know the proper incantations, it'll run on a 386.
Is a company called "StarTech" still around? They used to sell these, or
at least what sounds like the same thing. They specialized in anything and
everything from Sci-Fi TV shows and Movies. Including some of the more
obscure shows.

Of course since I've not seen a catalogue from them in almost 10 years,
they are very likely out of business.

Don't sweat it, we all get crazies in the classroom at somepoint, I know I
am one.
The toughtest sale I have are my 7th graders. They all wander in with
notions like "Sam Houston wore women's clothing and the reason he didn't
kill Santa Anna was that they both knew the secret crack whore handshake."
And they believe that stuff because their daddies told it to them :)
So, primary documentation becomes a necessary evil with the little buggers.

Some of the more colorful ideas presented to me this year were
1) Columbus' ships were the Santa Anna, The Banana, and the Mayflower
2) The Government is hiding UFO's in the desert.

Now, the UFO debate starting with my annual discussion of "The consitution
as a framework for American/Texan government" Needless to say, the UFOs came
up soon after.

As for Traveller, how about a prolonged "field" trip aboard the character's
ship for a group of young students. Of course these are wealthy students
from a backwater planet who have VERY strong opinions about Imperial
History.
The entire voyage and the resulting planetary trip could be a test of wills
as the Players try and "teach" the truth to these rug rats. Make some of the
kid's statements inflammatory and in public so that the local Imperial
authorities take offense, possibly even arresting the characters :)

Just a thought
Actually, the government may in fact be hiding such vehicles, although I am
not convinced they are extra-terrestrial. I think they are more likely to
be advanced test craft for some very secret air force project.

Case in point, a simple Ion-Plasma drive system would account for these
things normally associated with UFO's :

1. Glow. Plasma glows.
2. Electrical interference. Leakage from the drive would account for this.
3. Super-sonic flights without sonic boom. Ionizing radiation from the
ion-plasma field would disrupt air molecules around the ship, eliminating
the
forced air-mass at the front of the ship that causes it to leave a
vacuum in it's wake. No vacuum, no sonic boom.

Why would the government hide these things and deny their existence? Well
I'm sure you all can come up with a host of plausible reasons. Off the top
of my head I can think of one :

Perhaps these air-ships do not work so good and Millions have been spent on
them (thrown away). Military is no likely to own up to that.
If you can find it get Warp 4, othersise get 3 Connect. I might be wrong,
but don't think there was a Red version of the Connect, just the straight
Warp 3. You will want the version that includes the IBM tweeked Win3.1
support, IAC. Looking at Yahoo's auctions you should be able to get a
copy for under $50.

Then you will want to upgrade the version you get to the latest version
with the bug fixes, complete Y2k support, addition of TT fonts, NS
Communicator, etc, etc. These are free from one of IBM's sites, but we're
talking hundreds of MB and a *lonnng* download. The easy way is to go to
Indelibile Blue (1) and search for their WarpUp Client CD. For about $20,
you get all the latest upgrades and utilities with an easy to use install
program for all the features.

(1) Indelible Blue at http://www.indelible-blue.com/ is a good place to
find OS/2, Linux, or even Windows software online. They also sell
hardware, including systems pre-loaded with Linux, OS/2 and/or Windows.
There is a decent side view of the Saratoga, measured in meters and with a
comparrison to the USAN SS Saratoga on the net. Go to...
http://www.geocities.com/Area51/Station/1459/
and follow the lings to the Saratoga "blue prints"
"Schwarzkopf", IIRC, means "Blackhead." "_Schwantzkopf_", OTOH, means
"Dickhead."
Now _that's_ an Illuminated approach!

Best of all, if they do their research in the San Francisco area, they
actually can find credible evidence (newspapers printing Imperial
decrees, money issued by the Emperor, etc.). In fact, ISTR that the Bay
Bridge has a plaque honoring Emperor Norton I, who, on March 23, 1872,
decreed "that a suspension bridge be built as soon as convenient between
Oakland Point and Goat Island, and then on to San Francisco."

See

http://www.sfmuseum.org/hist1/norton.html

for a synopsis of His Imperial Majesty's rule.

Note, BTW, that Emperor Norton I was originally buried _in the MASONIC
Cemetery_....

And who _was_ "the Widow's Son", anyway?

There's someone at my door, so I'll just post this now....
Can't help with ship designs - although I tried a Lab Ship once, the
I wonder whether spin-gravity would provide the best teaching
environment. For instance, those undergrad physics labs would prove
harder to complete with predictable results, since gravity would not be
as constant as it is either on a planetary surface or in an artificial
gravity environment. Not to mention the difficulties drunken college
students would have moving from one level to another, with gravity
changing on them....

That's a fair piece larger than any ship one could design using HG. I
designed a 1,000,000 dton battleship using FF&S2, with the Medium
Cylinder configuration. I came up with a length of 415.7 meters, and a
diameter of 206.3 meters.
The Internet worm was late 1980's. The place I was munging assembly code
at the time was not effected because of the flavor of Digitial UNIX we used
on our servers did not have the security hole it exploited.

This means that your PC will have to do some research. The virus they use
to paralyze a quick local police response might not have any effect on the
Fire Department response (with high pressure hoses) or the local military
units.
The very fact they existed at all would be sufficient reason. No government
wants its enemies/rivals to know which avenues it's researching.

There were some rumours that the Russian Federation was looking at
plasma-related stuff for stealthing aircraft. I doubt they got anywhere, but
the fact they were doing research could easily have caused enough scare in
US mil-research circles to have a look at the technology themselves.
